Kent & Sussex Security (KSS) has provided Shepherd Neame, Britain’s oldest brewer, with comprehensive CCTV systems at their site in Faversham, Kent. The site is old, split by public roads and is large – all factors which contribute to making security a top priority. In addition, Shepherd Neame has also opened a separate distribution site outside the town, which further fragments the security task.
KSS installed a comprehensive system at the distribution centre in 2004 and this was expanded as the site grew. Shepherd Neame had decided that they required a comprehensive CCTV approach for both sites which could be re-monitored and managed from their new security office on the main brewery site.
New CCTV systems were installed on both sites by KSS, using Honeywell high speed surveillance domes and Neurodynamics digital recorders, linked by the company LAN to enable all cameras to be monitored from one purpose-made viewing console in Faversham.
Cabling on both sides was effected using new dedicated UTP (unshielded twist pair), highways, NVT (Network Video Technology),
transmission transmitters and receivers. This allows the cameras to be cabled at long distances without picture degradation, and
without any risk from electromagnetic fields or lightening strikes.
With an eye to the future, KSS have allowed spare cabling capacity for adding subsequent cameras very economically. Geoff Hilton from KSS comments "As Shepherd Neame continues to grow, their needs will change accordingly and we have provided a system which allows for flexibility and growth in the future. We have consolidated the provision of security to meet current requirements, and provided a reliable and sympathetic security solution for areas that are both steeped in history and very fragmented."
Shepherd Neame production and distribution director Ian Dixon comments "Security is high priority for any business with split sites. KSS worked closely with us to implement a flexible CCTV system which is both sympathetic to our historic brewery and also provides a central monitoring facility for our two sites."
