Case Study: The Magic of the Gated Kingdom

Hill Reed Security Gate

Kent & Sussex Security (KSS) has provided a neat and efficient gate security system at the new Hill Reed Homes development in Kings Hill. The estate, comprising one main building of seven luxury apartments and two detached houses, is accessed through three pedestrian gates and one vehicular gate and KSS were invited to provide automated access through these entrances which is operated from within the houses or apartments.

Hill Reed Homes wished for the seven apartments and two houses to connect to a single pedestrian gate as well as the vehicle gate in order that visitors can contact the occupant who can then release the gate lock and allow access. Apart from audio recognition from the entrance gates, the seven flats also have the advantage of video entry from the block’s main entrance door as well.

Hill Reed Door Entry System

KSS recommended the Urmet door entry system that connects to a handset in each apartment and thus is able to call the appropriate apartment by pressing a button on their handset: the resident can then open either the pedestrian or vehicular gate remotely. This allows visitors access to the estate and should they then wish to visit an apartment in the main building, they would then proceed to the video entry phone panel by the main door where residents can then verify the visitor’s identity before allowing access. Residents entering their estate have the luxury of doing so from the comfort of their own car without having to battle with the elements – the gates open at the press of a button from a hand held remote in the car!

KSS provided and installed the ornamental gates for pedestrians and vehicle access along with the automation equipment provided by BPT Automation. The gates are galvanised and finished with powder coat paint for lasting looks. The gate actuators are hidden underground beneath each gate hinge which provides a neat, convenient and safe method of opening and closing the gates.

John Jameson from KSS comments "We are seeing an increase in the number of ‘gated communities’ which are coming into being. This is an economical means of protecting premises and property, whilst also providing personal security. The systems are technically advanced and yet relatively easy to install and maintain. Often just the sight of electronically controlled entry is enough to deter would-be trouble makers."
