The Silent Witness to Unauthorised Access
Brunel Point is a large residential development consisting of flats and houses situated in Rotherhithe. The development is managed by Andertons who are part of the substantial LTC Property Services Group, managing over 500 estates. Andertons were alerted to the fact that there were a number of unwanted visitors wandering around the site as the pedestrian gate was not controlled: the gate which allows vehicular entry did however control unauthorised entry.
Andertons approached Kent & Sussex Security (KSS) to provide a solution for unauthorised entry. The objective was to connect the apartments and houses to a single pedestrian gate so that visitors can contact the occupant, be identified and the occupant be able to release the gate lock and allow access: in addition to audio recognition they also wanted to be able to see the visitors.
The existing pedestrian gate has been automated so that it can be controlled from each resident’s apartment. This was achieved by adding a BPT Automation gate actuator to open and close the gate remotely.
KSS specified a Telguard door entry system that connects to a dedicated standard telephone line and thus is able to call the appropriate apartment’s phone number, and by pressing a key on their handset, the recipient of the call can open the gate remotely. This system offers total flexibility of operation - even if the phone number called is a mobile or transferred number - enabling the occupier to control the gate from, for example, their office.
A Silent Witness vandal resistant CCTV camera mounted above the audio panel is connected to the estate’s communal TV system and by changing to a pre-programmed channel on their TV they can see who is there and what is happening around the gate. A floodlight with movement sensor was also fitted to improve night time pictures.
"Between the clever application of standard telephone and TV, the estate is now able to provide safety and peace of mind for residents who can now control who enters their community, thus providing a secure environment for all." Comments John Jameson "The increase in demand for gated communities demonstrates that people are concerned about security issues and we are pleased that we are able to offer solutions for these concerns."
