Security is not always a bitter pill to swallow!

Health Centres and Doctors’ practices are regarded as high risk premises due in part to the perception – real or otherwise – that drugs are stored on the premises. Security is therefore a vital aspect of the management of medical premises and is a field in which Kent and Sussex Security (KSS) excel.

A collection of old portable buildings used by Saffron Health Centre in Milton Regis, Sittingbourne were required to be replaced by four new portable buildings. This vital work was scheduled in a phased programme which allowed the practice to keep functioning throughout its upgrade and in a manner which ensured the buildings maintained the necessary level of security protection.

KSS was instructed to install an intruder alarm, staff attack system and remotely monitored external CCTV in two phases as the new portable buildings were delivered, commission and occupied in phased pairs. Many factors came into play to ensure that Dr. Pasola and his team could carry on their work taking care of their patients, with the minimum of disruption and whilst enjoying a safe working environment.

Careful planning ensured that all three security systems were installed into the first pair of buildings initially, with the control equipment being installed in temporary locations. This provided protection for the staff and buildings pending the arrival of the third and fourth buildings in the second stage of development. When the second pair of buildings were delivered on site the systems were duly extended and the control equipment was moved to its permanent positions.

“We are always pleased to work with the NHS and enjoyed the challenge of ensuring this project was completed on time and with the minimum of disruption to the surgery’s everyday life.” Says Geoff Hilton, Managing Director of KSS “We work extensively within the medical sector and whilst it is important that we deliver security which protects staff, the premises and their contents, we ensure that our systems are neither intrusive nor invasive, quietly maintaining safety for all.”
